What is a Splashpad? A Splashpad is an aquatic recreation system that provides several combinations of dynamic interactive play with an automated system. Water is sprayed, rained, dumped, poured and gushed from the different play features and creates excitement and and enjoyable experience for all the children who use it. There is very little standing water, it is all zero-entry level, there is a non-slip foundation, no life guards are necessary (parental supervision is still required and highly encouraged) and no chemicals are involved in the proposed system. How large will the Splashpad be and where will it be located? The Splashpad will be located in Centennial Park just north of the tennis courts. It will cover approximately 3,000 square feet and be and elliptical shaped facility. What features will the Splashpad have? We have chosen seven (7) different features for the Splashpad. Water conservation is always a concern, therefore low flow nozzles are being used where applicable and timers will be utilized for both hours of operation and for random sequencing of the water play features. What is the cost for the proposed Splashpad? Splashpads are a financially feasible way for communities our size to be able to provide such an aquatic experience. The system we have chosen will cost approximately $100,000. Ongoing costs for maintenance and water usage will total around $3,000 per year. How will the project be financed? The Boyden Park & Rec Board are writing an Invision Iowa Community Attraction & Tourism Grant in the hopes of defraying a good portion of the facility costs. However, approximately $30,000 needs to be raised before our grant application will be considered competitive. Donations are being sought and fundraisers will be held throughout the summer. |
