On September 9 and 10, 2006 Boyden Fire and Ambulance hosted the Interior Fire Attack Simulator. This trailer, typically referred to as "the burn trailer" by firefighters, is operated by the Fire Service Training Bureau division of the Iowa State Fire Marshals office. The trailer is designed to simulate a burning building.

The class time consisted of the review of firefighter I training as well as new updated techniques. Practical time involved locating and accessing the fire for extinguishment. Smoke filled the trailer to approximately 1 foot of visibility and heat was between 375 to 400 degrees. Instructors controlled the smoke and fires in the trailer making the experience as real as possible.

On June 6, 2006 at approximately 3:30 AM the Boyden Fire, Ambulance and Rescue personnel were dispatched to Structure Fire in Boyden. This structure was currently a vacant rental home. Upon arrival the rear porch area was fully involved with smoke throughout the home. Flames progressed through the walls and into the attic space which proved to be difficult to extinguish.

Cause of the fire was investigated by the Iowa State Fire Marshal and is currently undetermined.

Pictures were provided by some neighbors.
